No criminal charges for suspects in death of Albert Bustamante in Lodi

Officials said they both acted in self-defense.

LODI, Calif. — The two men arrested in connection to the death of Albert Bustamante in Lodi won't be facing charges.

The Lodi Police Department said the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office didn't file criminal charges against Juan Suarez or David Flores for their roles in the 29-year-old's death. Officials said they both acted in self-defense based on the evidence they've gathered so far.

"The Lodi Police Department support’s the SJCDA’s office in their decision and we will continue to investigate any leads and/or additional evidence that is presented or discovered. Our thoughts go out to Mr. Bustamante’s friends and family," Lodi police said on Facebook.

Suarez and and Flores were suspected of stabbing and killing Bustamante during a fight Saturday afternoon along the 300 block of West Century Boulevard. The circumstances surrounding the fight and stabbing aren't clear at this time.
