NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — A woman was arrested and a 3-year-old was found safe after what officials are saying was a parental abduction.
The Nevada County Sheriff's Office says they responded to the area of N. Bloomfield Road near Grizzly Hill Road about an assault around 11:40 a.m. Upon investigating, they found a man who had "visible injuries" from a fight with a woman he has a child with.
Siera Salitero, 30, was identified as the suspect and had taken their 3-year-old son with her on foot after the fight, officials say.
An AMBER Alert was issued to search for Salitero and the child around 6 p.m. Multiple law enforcement agencies began searching the steep and rural area of Nevada County by plane and foot and with dogs.
Nearly an hour after the AMBER Alert was issued, search and rescue teams heard "noises and cries for help" in a river canyon nearby.
California Highway Patrol assisted in helping air rescue the child who was uninjured. Salitero is also uninjured and was helped out of the canyon by officials.
"We are very, very thankful. We couldn't have done it without the help of these agencies," said Nevada County Sheriff's Office Captain Sean Scales.
Salitero was charged with child endangerment, parental abduction and domestic violence charges, according to Scales.
Scales says CAL OES FIRIS planes, search and rescue teams, Grass Valley Police Department K-9 units and other agencies assisted in the search and ultimate rescue of both people. The FBI and other agencies also offered help.
