SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sandra Rose's 20-year-old son was shot and killed eight years ago, but after all that time, she's still pleading for answers.
"I’ll never see him get married. I’ll never hear his voice. The pictures are all that I have of my son now," said Rose.
She said she’ll never forget the call from the hospital.
“I knew then that I lost him. You have this feeling, and you know. I just remember screaming, and I called my mom," said Rose.
Someone opened fire on Barajas' truck just as he was leaving a Home Depot parking lot back on Sunday June 28, 2015.
“They had called me because he was a donor. He had signed up on his driver’s license to be a donor, and that’s just who Anthony was. If there was somebody on the side of the road he would pull over. He’d say, "Mom I’m going to be late.' He goes, 'There’s a mother. Her car was on the side of the road. I’m helping her get off the side of the street.' That’s just who he was,” said Rose.
Police are convinced the shooting was a case of mistaken identity, and detectives are hoping to send a message to those responsible.
“You made a mistake. You shot the wrong person. This man had nothing to do with you and your drama,” said Detective Scot Kreutz, with Sacramento Police Department.
The governor’s office is offering $50,000 dollars for information leading to an arrest. And eight years later, detectives are still on the case.
"I'm not going to give up. I have an idea, but I need to find more proof. And I know somebody out there knows something," said Kreutz.
Sacramento police released surveillance pictures of the suspect vehicle. They said it's perhaps a 1997 to 2005 Buick Century or a 1995 to 1998 Crown Victoria.
"It happened in broad daylight on Meadowview Road," said Kreutz. "There were lots of people there."
Someone saw something, and Barajas' family is pleading for answers.
“Please, I beg you. The family that knows this person. The friends that know this person. They would want the same thing for their family if it was their brother or their sister or their mother. You would want justice for them as well, and eight years is too long for my son,” said Rose.
Anyone with information on who shot and killed Anthony Barajas call Sacramento Police Department. People could quality for a $50,000 reward if their tip leads to an arrest.
