Residents return to evacuated apartments, no shooter found in Arden Arcade

Sheriff's deputies evactuated the complex and singled out an apartment that the suspected gunman was in, but found no one inside.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One person was injured Friday after reports of gunshots at an Arden Arcade apartment complex. The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies said her injury was not gun related.

The apartment complex where shots were reported around 7 a.m. is in the 3500 block of Morse Avenue, near the intersection of Edison Avenue. It was evacuated for hours as a SWAT team worked to make contact with a man they believe to be holed up in an apartment, the Sacramento Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies were first called to the apartment complex after receiving reports of someone shooting a BB gun. However, when they got there deputies found evidence that an actual gun may have been used.

After evacuating the complex Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Detail (SED) took over the situation and singled out an apartment that the suspected shooter was seen entering. Once inside they found that the apartment was empty.

At this point, there is no word on where the man may have gone. He is described as in his 20's with brown hair and a goatee.

Sacramento Sheriff's detectives are investigating. At this time they have not identified a motive and have not confirmed if he knows the woman who was injured.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.
