Live device found at Sacramento County home of man who told library he had bomb | Update

Deputies said they found a live device along with two pounds of explosive material.

ARDEN-ARCADE, Calif. — A bomb threat at a library led to the discovery of a live device and explosive material at a Sacramento County home, officials said.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded after a man allegedly told Arden-Dimick Community Library staff he had a bomb around 4:30 p.m.

Deputies found the man and detained him. They found a backpack that left on a counter at the library, but there was nothing inside it.

Sgt. Amar Gandhi, spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said deputies got a lead that the man might have had a device in another place and went to his home along Harvest Way, near La Riviera. Authorities said they found a live device with two pounds of explosive material.

In an update, the suspect was identified as Robert Eric Matheson, 54. Sgt. Gandhi said Matheson could face charges related to threats and possessing a bomb in a residential area.

There's no threat to the neighborhood.
