Alleged kidnapping victim found safe; 'Armed and dangerous' suspect still at-large | Update

Investigators say Maitland Carpenter went to a home in Susanville, Calif. and took Dorothie Janaybean Crosby against her will.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Update 9:15 p.m.

Dorothie Janaybean Crosby, an alleged kidnapping victim from Lassen County, was found safely in Susanville on Monday, sheriff's officials said.

Law enforcement is still searching for Maitland Carpenter, the man accused of kidnapping Crosby. Carpenter is still considered armed and dangerous, according to the Lassen County Sheriff's officials.

Sheriff officials said Carpenter could be driving a gold Hyundai Santa Fe with the California license plate 5XIL173.

Authorities out of Lassen County are searching for a kidnapping suspect who they say may be armed and dangerous and is known to frequent the Sacramento and Reno areas.

The suspect, Maitland Carpenter, went to a home in Susanville, Calif., Monday morning and left with Dorothie Janaybean Crosby and an unidentified man, according to the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators believe Crosby is being held against her will and is at risk. She is approximately 25 years old and has also gone by the names Miles, Janay Crosby, or Janay Miles.

No other information was given about the unidentified male’s connection to this case.
