Lodi officer injures man armed with semiautomatic rifle during shootout, police say

The responding officer approached the 37-year-old man who was armed with a semiautomatic rifle and semiautomatic handgun, and the two began to exchange fire.

LODI, Calif. — A Lodi Police Officer shot a man allegedly armed with a semiautomatic rifle during a Tuesday morning shootout, according to the department.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired around 5:10 a.m. in the 900 block of Industrial Way. The responding officer approached the unidentified 37-year-old man who was armed with a semiautomatic rifle and semiautomatic handgun, and the two began to exchange fire.

The man was shot multiple times, the department said. The officer was uninjured.

The man was taken into custody and transported to a hospital where's listed in stable condition. He is expected to survive.
