SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Three men are behind bars for the shooting death of a three-year-old girl in South Sacramento last September, police officials said.
Azalya Anderson was shot on Sept. 11, 2018 in a home in the 7400 block of Della Circle in Florin. Despite extensive treatment, she died of her injuries four days later.
Christopher Richie-Bibbs, 25, and Reginald Nash, 18 were arrested for shooting into an occupied dwelling, which killed the toddler. Detectives also arrested Marquess Wilson, 24, for being an accessory after the fact. All three face an additional allegation that the crime was gang-related.
Since the shooting, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department investigators have worked to find and arrest the person behind the child's death. The department said a lack of family cooperation made the task difficult.
"On December 13, 2018, the persistence of Sheriff’s Department investigators paid off as they arrested three people suspected of being involved in this despicable act of violence upon our community, which took this young child’s life," the department said in a release.
Christopher Richie-Bibbs and Reginald Nash are in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail and are being held on $1,000,000 bail. Marquess Wilson has been released on bail.
