Sacramento gas station robbed 4 times in nearly a month: 'Broadway is dying'

"We have a button-locking system. We have a security, everything, but it happens. That was so scary with a gun."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Police Department believes the same two suspects are involved in four robberies at the Chevron gas station off Broadway.

Meanwhile, business owners in the area said the situation has gone from bad to worse recently, and they want more help from law enforcement before someone gets hurt.

A series of brazen gunpoint robberies at the Chevron gas station on Broadway have left store managers and employees shaken.

"He just came inside, grabbed all the cash on gunpoint, so we call 911," said Syed Naqvi, who is the store manager at Chevron on Broadway.

He said this isn't the first time it's happened, and Sacramento Police Department confirmed the gas station has been hit four times in about a month: once on Dec. 21, one on Jan. 19 and twice on Jan. 23.

"Fencing the doors, the glass sheer screening, we have a button-locking system. We have a security, everything but it happens. That was so scary with a gun," said Naqvi.

The store manager said it's the same man doing the robberies. He's blaming the homeless population, ongoing construction in the area, and police for not patrolling the area enough.

Dharmendra Ram, the owner of C & B Food and Liquors right beside the gas station said they're having to check up on each other as this happens more often.

"You shake. You should have seen these people here, same people twice yesterday. You know, he called me. I had to close my store and run here with a stick," said Ram.

He said his store has been broken into at least five times, and he's been robbed at gunpoint at least three times.

He's concerned about what it's doing to a once vibrant street.

"So it's ongoing. Broadway is dying. Now, they're changing Broadway to a one-way lane each from two lane. So what's gonna happen is less traffic, more problem," said Ram.

Sacramento Police said the cases have been forwarded to their robbery division where they'll be analyzing video, evidence, and witness statements.

In addition to normal patrols, they have routine dedicated resources to the Broadway corridor.

"Ask the mayor to come and walk in these gas stations. I'll pay him cash. I challenge him and the city councilors," said Ram.

Anyone with information on these cases can reach out to dispatch at (916) 808-5471 or you can call Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-4357.
