String of burglaries hit multiple businesses in Natomas

One business owner said it was the third time that week her business had been burglarized.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Shattered glass doors and ransacked shelves were left in the wake of multiple burglarizes across Sacramento early Tuesday morning.

For Kaushik Bulsara, owner of Natraj Indian Food in Natomas, it felt personal.

"I can see there are a lot of mom and pop businesses that are going out of business because they can’t bear these losses," said Bulsara.

Bulsara said the burglars got away with about $200 in merchandise. The broken back door was costlier; he spent $800 getting it replaced.

Three businesses in the building on 4301 Truxel Road in Natomas were targeted on the same night, including Bulsara's neighbor Kusina Lumpia, a Pilipino restaurant and shop.

"I hope [police] do something to protect us," said owner Nelda Vargas.

District 3 Councilmember Karina Talamantes, who represents the area targeted, said she understood the shop owners' frustration.

"My ask to all business owners is to please report it," said Talamantes, adding that Sacramento Police Department detectives are working to solve cases like these — and they may find patterns individuals don't see in their reports and surveillance video.

"Report, report, report. Because the more data our Sacramento Police Department has, the more data they can work off," said Talamantes.

But for the business owners, there's little comfort without word of an arrest.

"All I do is pray to god to protect it, but people are doing what they want to do, and they don’t care," said Vargas.
