Man shot in Butte County after accidentally driving into 'illegal marijuana farm,' deputies say

It all happened Saturday around 11 p.m. when Butte County Sheriff’s Office officials got a call about someone being shot in Palermo.

PALERMO, Calif. — A man was shot after accidentally pulling into the wrong driveway in Butte County. It was the driveway of a “large illegal marijuana grow,” according to sheriff’s deputies.

It all happened Saturday around 11 p.m. when Butte County Sheriff’s Office officials got a call about someone being shot in Palermo. The man was taken to a hospital and later airlifted to another, but is now in stable condition, officials say.

Deputies say the victim tried to get to Alta Airosa Drive to meet a family member, but was shot upon entering the driveway. Officials say he had accidentally tried to get to the address by driving through Dunstone Drive.

An investigation led deputies to believe the property where the man was shot was a “large illegal marijuana grow” along with two other connected pieces of land also growing marijuana.

Deputies served a search warrant on these properties Tuesday and found 1,200 marijuana plants, a gun and evidence related to the shooting. There have been no reported arrests in connection to the shooting or farm.

Sheriff’s officials are still investigating and encourage anyone with information to contact them at 530-538-7671.
