CHICO, Calif. — A Chico man was arrested for attempted kidnapping Thursday after he allegedly tried to drag a woman into a minivan.
According to the Chico Police Department, it happened just after midnight on September 1 along West 1st Street.
Police say the victim was at a house party when she became separated from a friend and was lost because she was unfamiliar with the area. A man in a white minivan began following her and witnesses say the man got out, grabbed the woman and tried to drag her into the van.
The victim fought back and fell backward onto the ground, causing her to hit the back of her head.
Police say witnesses confronted the suspect, who then drove off. He was later identified as 49-year-old Jose Alvarado Rodriguez.
A warrant was issued for his arrest Thursday and he was arrested at his home. He was taken to the Butte County Jail and booked on suspicion of attempted kidnapping.
