SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — Police broke up a Tracy area chop shop that was dismantling a dozen stolen sports cars.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the San Joaquin County Auto Theft Task Force executed a search warrant at a rural home along South Bird Road in the unincorporated area of San Joaquin County. Police said the warrant was in regard to an auto theft investigation involving car parts being stolen and sold.
Police said they recovered 12 stolen cars that were being dismantled at the chop shop. The cars included 10 Chevrolet Camaros and two Corvettes, which had a total value loss of more than $600,000.
According to CHP, authorities found stolen doors, seats, hoods, an engine and other parts on the property. The stolen parts were reported by law enforcement agencies including San Joaquin County, Alameda County, San Francisco County, Yolo County and Stanislaus County.
Two men were arrested at the property and a third was found arrested in Manteca. They were booked into the county jail on suspicion of operating a chop shop and having stolen car parts.
