STOCKTON, Calif. — Two 23-year-old adults were arrested after their one-month-old died early Wednesday morning, according to the Stockton Police Department.
Police say officers were called by medical staff to a Stockton hospital around 2:21 a.m. about a child's death. Officials say the child, a one-month-old, had "multiple injuries consistent with abuse."
The child's parents, 23-year-old Robert Meyer Sr and 23-year-old Sareya Sexton, were interviewed by detectives at their home and eventually arrested on suspicion of homicide and felony child abuse charges.
Both Meyer and Sexton were booked in the San Joaquin County Jail. An investigation is ongoing, according to police.
