DENAIR, Calif. — A man is in custody after a stand-off ended in Denair Monday evening.
According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office, the suspect was wanted for weapons brandishing, criminal threats and resisting an executive officer case. Deputies said the suspect refused to come outside but was ultimately apprehended by a canine.
The incident began around 2:25 p.m. along the 2900 block of Salluce Drive. Officers and firefighters responded to reports of a motorcycle on fire in the driveway of a person's home. Callers said a man was arguing with a woman out front.
When first responders arrived, they got the fire under control and got the woman into a safe location. The man, later identified as Hurshel Vernon Myers, began threatening first responders while armed with a gun, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office.
Meyers was barricaded inside and refused to come out. The standoff eventually ended around 6:35 p.m. when Meyers came out of the home. He was taken to a hospital after being bitten by a K-9 while being taken into custody. No one else was hurt during the incident.
The sheriff's office said it seized 17 firearms and hundreds, if not thousands, of ammunition.
