Driver in deadly Sacramento crash facing homicide charge, police say

Police said the suspect showed signs of intoxication after the crash.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The driver in a deadly Sacramento crash faces charges homicide and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to police.

The Sacramento Police Department said the crash happened around 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 7 near Sunmeadow Drive and Franklin Boulevard.

One man was found in a car with life-threatening injuries and was ultimately pronounced dead on scene. 

Police said the driver of the other car was detained and showed signs of intoxication. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, but he was then booked into the county jail when he was cleared.

Police identified the suspect as 46-year-old Alvin Chand of Elk Grove.
