SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Preparations are in place for the first memorial service and funeral procession in 20 years for the Sacramento Police Department.
Sacramento Officer Tara O’Sullivan, 26, was only months out of the police academy when she was shot and killed responding to a disturbance call at a north Sacramento home. Her memorial service will be at Bayside Adventure Church in Roseville. The church will have space for public attendance.
Law enforcement has encouraged community members to honor O’Sullivan’s memory and commitment to Sacramento by showing their support during the procession.
Who was Officer Tara O’Sullivan
Tara O’Sullivan was 26-year-old officer with the Sacramento Police Department.
Her friends remember her for her strength, both physical and emotional. She had the toughness to train through a broken wrist and the compassion to support her friends when they were feeling depressed.

"We were basically best friends," Sacramento Sheriff's Deputy Tim Blocker told ABC10. "We did everything together. We worked out together, ate together, [and] went through the LECS [Law Enforcement Candidate Scholar] program together. I'd walk her home from school. I really miss her."
Although she grew up in the East Bay, she found love for her home in Sacramento, even becoming a Sacramento State Hornet and graduate. Before she entered the academy, she was preparing for a career in law enforcement; she even decorated her graduation cap with her goal of joining the police academy.
O’Sullivan was fatally shot on June 19 during a domestic disturbance call. The suspected gunman, Adel Sambrano Ramos, opened fire on O’Sullivan and other officers as they helped an unidentified woman pack her belongings from the garage of a north Sacramento home, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
