Explosion, vandalism reported at Antelope middle school after recent uptick

Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District officials told ABC10 they are seeing an increase in vandalism at Antelope Crossing Middle School.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District officials are offering up to a $1,000 reward for information on a May 15 vandalism at Antelope Crossing Middle School.

A school district spokesperson told ABC10 they turned over security footage to police showing four suspects lighting an explosive next to a boy's locker room door.

They were reportedly seen running to a red Tesla parked along Heartland and Palmerson drives.

A school district spokesperson said they've potentially identified two of the suspects, both believed to be minors, based on community input.

School district officials said the damage to the door will cost around $6,000 to replace.

Neighbors said teenagers have been lighting off fireworks from the middle school's blacktop for weeks.

New mom Kristin Phillips said her young family can hear the explosions right outside their house.

"It kind of even shakes our house a little bit, so it's little scary for having a little one in the house," she said.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the noises wake up neighbors, scare kids and pets and stress out people with PTSD.

"We see fireworks damage property and hurt people every year. This is something that's almost like clockwork," said Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn.

The only fireworks that are legal in the state of California are ones that have the "Safe & Sane" seal.

In Sacramento County, they are only sold from June 28 to July 4. Anyone who violates California's fireworks law could face a fine of up to $50,000 and up to a year in jail.
