He was arrested after a witness followed him and reported the crime to the police department.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A man is being accused of murder after allegedly running over another person multiple times in the Solano Town Center parking lot.

Fairfield Police Department said the victim, only described as a man, was walking through the mall's northside parking lot when he was hit by a white Dodge pickup truck around 11:30 a.m.

The driver, eventually identified as 25-year-old Vakautakava Tangitau, allegedly ran him over multiple times before taking off.

A witness followed him while reporting the crime to the police department. Eventually, police said arriving officers were able to stop Tangitau along the 800 block of East Tabor Avenue and take him into custody.

Police said he was known to officers from previous mental health calls.

Tangitau was booked into the county jail on suspicion of murder. However, the motive for the crime is still under investigation.
