Man in hospital after being shot by Fairfield police

Police said the man had non-life-threatening injuries.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A man was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK after being shot by Fairfield police Monday afternoon, officials said.

Police were initially called to the 100 block of Commerce Court for a report of a person possibly loitering and setting up camp around 1:50 p.m.

The man, identified as Robert Wilson, was someone known to officers and has been arrested multiple times in previous years, police said.

Officers tried to arrest Wilson for an outstanding warrant, but officials said he wouldn't cooperate and drove away. Authorities said his car had at least one flat tire and ultimately came to a stop.

Wilson allegedly ran off while being chased by officers. According to police, he pulled a gun and pointed it at officers. After that happened, police shot Wilson.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident.

Police said Wilson had five guns, which turned out to be BB guns, and a sixth gun that police couldn't identify was found his car.

The incident remains under investigation.
