The family of a 12-year-old boy, who was shot and killed in National city, is sharing their pain and pleas for an arrest. The victim was identified as Elijah Smith. He was one of several people shot following an argument at a house party late Friday night.
"He was the best. He was always trying to make people laugh. he was really funny. he was caring. he cared so much about all of us. even his friends he had the biggest heart ever," said Oakley Smith, Elijah's older sister.
He was the youngest of three siblings and his family says they don't know who he was with at the party. Police say there was at least one-hundred people at the abandoned home on N Street.
Police say four males were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds and the fifth, Elijah, died despite lifesaving efforts. Ages ranged from teens to young adults.
"You hear this all the time but never think it's going to happen to you," said Sophia Alvarez Smith, his mother.
She says gun violence needs to stop.
"Now we're grieving like all these other parents and it's not fair. Now I have to bury my 12 year old son because some people think it's so easy to buy a gun and shoot someone," she said.
The family is now seeking justice. They want anyone with information about the party or possible suspects to contact police. You can contact Crimestoppers to remain anonymous.
His family says detectives working the case can be reached at 619-336-4482 or 619-336-4465.
"I just hope if you know something say something. If your kids that were at the party and know anything please encourage them. Any little detail will help us," his sister said.
His family set up a gofundme to help with funeral costs.
