Man arrested in connection to Citrus Heights fatal fentanyl overdose

Police say they found evidence linking 34-year-old Collin Reed Holcomb to allegedly selling Bradley Mitchell fentanyl in the days before his death.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. — A man was arrested in Citrus Heights Wednesday night in connection to a fatal fentanyl overdose in February, according to officials.

The Citrus Heights Police Department says they began investigating after they were called to the 7900 block of Madison Avenue Feb. 15 around 4:45 p.m. where they found 33-year-old Bradley Mitchell unresponsive. Witnesses told police Mitchell had likely overdosed.

Police say they found evidence linking 34-year-old Collin Reed Holcomb to allegedly selling Mitchell fentanyl in the days before his death. A search warrant was issued and police say they found Holcomb with a child in his Davis apartment along with "additional illegal narcotics." 

Holcomb was booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of murder, according to police. Police say the child found at Holcomb's apartment was taken in by child protective services 

"The Citrus Heights Police Department and Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office are committed to taking a hard stance against those who poison our communities with fentanyl and will ensure that those responsible for such lethal actions are brought to justice swiftly and decisively," said Wesley Herman, Citrus Heights Police Investigations Lieutenant in a press release.

This case could be one of the first in Sacramento County to bring a possible conviction to an alleged drug dealer for a death.
