SACRAMENTO, California — A Sacramento County man was convicted of killing a homeowner during a burglary in 2022 in North Highlands.

The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office announced Friday that Kailin Harris was convicted of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The shooting happened on January 17, 2022, when Harris was tampering with vehicles near the victim’s house and taking property from them. Harris entered the victim's backyard, broke into the shed, and stole multiple firearms, the district attorney's office said.

In 2022, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 62-year-old Gennadiy Ivanovich Mironov. It happened at his home on Greenlawn Way in North Highlands.

The district attorney's office said a Ring camera alarm woke up Mironov who confronted Harris as he left the house. Harris then shot him twice killing him, before leaving the house.

On January 27, 2022, deputies arrested Harris.

Harris was also found guilty of tampering with a vehicle. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 26 at 1:30 p.m.
