Man accused of firing gun toward 2 people in Yuba County

Deputies responded and tried to contact the suspect, but he kept firing the gun, barely missing deputies, according to the sheriff's office.

OREGON HOUSE, Calif. — Two people who tried to confront an alleged reckless driver were met with gunfire in Yuba County, according to the sheriff's office.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the area of Drake Way in Oregon House for a reported shooting around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Deputies said two people, an adult and a minor, walked over to a home to confront an alleged reckless driver and get their license plate number when the suspect got out of the home and pointed a gun at them.

The two turned to leave when the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Corby Sargent, allegedly fired the gun several times in their direction. No one was hit.

Deputies responded and tried to contact Sargent, but he kept firing the gun, barely missing deputies, according to the sheriff's office.

A SWAT team was activated and a search warrant was issued for the home. Eventually, Sargent was taken into custody without incident and he was booked into the county jail on suspicion of assault with a firearm and shooting at an inhabited vehicle.
