RIO LINDA, Calif. — Sacramento County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a man in connection to a deadly shooting in Rio Linda.
Officials say California Highway Patrol was in the area investigating a car accident near U Street just before 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26.
While investigating, officials say they heard gunshots nearby and went to the scene. A man, identified as 42-year-old Russell Mawyer, was found lying in the driveway where he was later pronounced dead.
Two people were detained at the scene but were later released after officials deemed them to have "not been involved," according to a press release.
The victim's brother, 39-year-old Robert Mawyer, was arrested Monday and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for murder, according to officials.
