CARMICHAEL, Calif. — Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies killed a man with a gun after an overnight standoff in Carmichael.
Deputies responded to shots fired at a house on the corner of Moraga Drive and Dewey Drive.
The sheriff's office says the man got into a dispute with his two roommates when he allegedly grabbed a gun, fired a shot into the ceiling and threatened one of the roommates.
When deputies got to the house, the man had already run off with a dog. The sheriff's office says the deputies then set up a perimeter and began a search.
Deputies later spotted him at the corner of Hillhurst Drive and Ashfield Way.
The man proceeded to climb up the roof of a nearby house leading to an hour-long negotiation where deputies tried to get him to climb down and surrender, said the sheriff's office. He fired shots at the deputies from the roof before deputies returned fire killing him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn't been released. No one else was hurt.
An investigation into the shooting is underway.
