Manteca man killed by pickup truck in deadly hit-and-run, police say

Police said Yanez is believed to have been involved in a minor crash before the deadly hit and run occurred. However, they don't appear to be related at this point.

MANTECA, Calif. — Police are looking for answers after a man was hit and killed by a pickup truck Saturday evening, officials said.

The Manteca Police Department said the deadly hit-and-run collision happened Saturday evening around 7:20 p.m. on Northgate Drive near Tidewater Bike Path. Police said the man was on foot when he was hit by what witnesses described as a pickup truck.

Despite efforts to save his life, the man was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Daniel Yanez, 31 of Manteca.

The involved vehicle took off before police arrived to the scene.

Police said Yanez is believed to have been involved in an earlier minor crash while on his motorcycle near N. Union Road and Northgate Drive. It involved an unidentified van. Police said the two collisions don't appear to be related at this point, but they are still wanting to speak with the party involved.

Anyone with information regarding the deadly collision or the collision prior to the incident can contact Officer Dan Peters or Officer Matthew Gardette through MPD Dispatch at (209) 456-8101.
