Teenager arrested in connection with Modesto drive-by shooting

Police said their Street Gang Unit identified the shooter as a 17-year-old boy from Merced.

MODESTO, Calif. — A teenager was arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting near a Modesto school.

According to the Modesto Police Department, the shooting happened near Elliott Alternative Education Center, not far from the northeast corner of Sunrise Avenue and Orangeburg Avenue around 1:45 p.m. Oct. 19.

MPD's Street Gang Unit, along with detectives from the Investigative Services Division, were able to identify the suspected shooter as a 17-year-old boy from Merced.

Police arrested him around 5 p.m. Saturday in Turlock. He was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of assault with a firearm and other weapon charges for being a minor and being near a school.

No one was hurt during the shooting.
