Driver arrested on DUI charges after crash seriously injures 6 in North Highlands

Cowles was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, however the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. — A major crash in North Highlands left six people with serious injuries on Saturday.

CHP North Sacramento said the two car crash happened at Auburn Boulevard and Hemlock Street.

Authorities said a Nissan Sentra was heading eastbound on Auburn Boulevard and trying to turn left onto Hemlock Street when a Chevrolet Malibu was travelling through the intersection.

Officials said the two cars crashed in the intersection, leaving everyone in the Malibu with serious injuries. Officials said the driver and five minors were among those injured in the car, however, the injuries were not life threatening.

CHP-North Sacramento said the five minors in the car were all unrestrained when the crash happened.

The driver of the Nissan was identified as Brandon David Cowles, 27.

Cowles was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, however the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
