North Sacramento sideshow turns violent after truck driver interrupts

At the same sideshow, one person was arrested after fleeing from officers and leading them on a high-speed chase on the nearby freeway.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A truck driver, who unintentionally interrupted a North Sacramento sideshow Sunday night, was struck in the head by a rock, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident happened near Metro Air Parkway and Allbaugh Drive, near Sacramento International Airport. CHP said bystanders surrounded the truck and began throwing rocks. The condition of the truck driver remains unknown.

At the same sideshow, one person was arrested after fleeing from officers and leading them on a high-speed chase on the nearby freeway. The driver was arrested for reckless driving and suspicion of DUI.

The crackdown by law enforcement resulted in several cars being pulled over.

“We are seeing an increase, especially during the warmer months,” said CHP Officer Ruben Jones.

He warns drivers to stay in their car and to avoid confronting anybody. Officer Jones said to not engage with the participants or the crowds. He also adds that people should avoid being noticed and be a good witness.

“If you can get some vehicle descriptions, some license plates of those that are engaging in it, we have some means of going after them after the fact,” Officer Jones said.

He warned sideshow participants to think twice before participating.

“Law enforcement, as a whole, we are coming after you. We do not want this behavior because people are getting hurt as vehicles go out of control more and more. We are seeing violence,” Jones said.

CHP said people participating in a sideshow can face criminal charges, fines and vehicle impounded. There are laws in place where spectators could also face penalties.
