SAN FRANCISCO — A 17-year-old boy is being charged with attempted murder in connection with the weekend shooting of San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall.
According to San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, her office has filed charges against the Tracy teenager for attempted murder, attempted second-degree robbery, assault with a semi-automatic gun and allegations of firing a gun and the personal use of a gun.
Jenkins said the charges were going to be filed in juvenile court.
The shooting was reported Saturday afternoon in the area of Geary Street and Grant Avenue in Union Square. Police said the 17-year-old boy from Tracy allegedly tried to rob Pearsall, and after a struggle, both he and Pearsall were shot.
Pearsall, 23, had a bullet wound in his chest, the 49ers said in a statement. He was released a day after the shooting. The teen was reportedly in stable condition after the shooting.
Pearsall, a wide receiver, was drafted on April 25 in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the 49ers after playing for the University of Florida.
