Man with gunshot wound found in Placer County

When deputies arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was shot and found lying on a road in rural Placer County.

Deputies say it started around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when a caller reported a man lying in the middle of the road near Riego and Pleasant Grove roads.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 51-year-old man had been shot in his lower body. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The sheriff’s office says the shooting isn’t believed to be random and the two people involved know each other.

"It's a little shocking that somebody was shot. Not 100% surprising in the sense that there's a lot of, in my opinion, drug activity in this area,” said Nathaniel Offer who works nearby.

He says most people who pass through that part of Placer County are just driving through toward Roseville or use it for dumping or illegal camping.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t released any more information, including a possible motive.
