Inmate escapes from Plumas County jail | UPDATES

Deputies are searching for Caleb Duerr, who was last seen near an O'Reilly Auto Parts store in Quincy.

QUINCY, Calif. — 11:15 a.m. Update:  

The Plumas County Sheriff's Office said in an update on Facebook that Duerr was "last seen walking southbound on County Road A23 from Highway 70 in Beckwourth at around 9 AM. Please be on the lookout and call 911 if you see someone matching the description. He has likely changed clothing at this point."

Schools are no longer having a shelter-in-place, the Plumas Unified School District said late Friday morning, because Duerr had left the area.

An inmate escaped from the Plumas County Jail in Quincy Friday morning. Law enforcement has issued a local area emergency notice for the Plumas County area.

The Plumas County Sheriff's Office said 39-year-old Caleb Duerr escaped around 8 a.m. He is described as six feet, one inch tall, and weighs approximately 165 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. 

The Sheriff's office said Duerr is considered violent and dangerous, he was last seen near the O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Quincy.

All schools in the area were told to shelter-in-place as a precaution.

"We are advised by the Plumas County Sheriff to be in Shelter-in-Place due to an escaped inmate from Plumas County Jail. Only our schools are affected," a representative from the Plumas Unified School District told ABC10.

According to the Plumas County District Attorney's Office Duerr was in jail for felony criminal threat and felony domestic violence with great bodily injury charges. He was also charged with a misdemeanor false imprisonment charge.

 The Sheriff's Office said anyone who sees Duerr they should call 911.
