POLLOCK PINES, Calif. — A nearly 40-mile stretch of Highway 50 is back open after a suspicious item scare led to a multi-hour closure Saturday.
The closure was between Meyers and Pollock Pines, an officer with the California Highway Patrol's Placerville office said.
According to the CHP, officers discovered the suspicious item near US-50 around 10 a.m. near the El Dorado County community of Strawberry.
Around 1 p.m., officers determined that the item did not pose a threat to the public. The roadway was reopened around that time.
In a news release, the CHP said it appreciated the public's understanding and patience during the nearly three-hour-long investigation.
