Police arrest driver accused of running down three people, killing one in Auburn | UPDATE

"This matter is wholeheartedly tragic and is a senseless crime," said Auburn Police Chief Ryan Kinnan.

AUBURN, California — Auburn police arrested the man accused of running over and killing someone early Wednesday morning as he was attempting to intentionally run down two others, officials confirmed Thursday.

Skyler Perry, 26, was arrested Wednesday night at a home in Foresthill about 20 minutes from where he allegedly ran down three people. The two surviving victims were taken to the hospital with minor and non-life threatening injuries.

The third victim, who police say was hit by Perry's car when he fled, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“I am extremely proud of the men and women of the Auburn Police Department in their efforts to relentlessly pursue this dangerous suspect," Auburn Police Chief Ryan Kinnan said in a press release.

Perry was booked into the Placer County Jail for murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The Auburn Police Department is searching for a suspect who allegedly ran over and killed someone as they were attempting to hit two other people, a department official confirmed in a press release.

Auburn Police Lieutenant Michael Garlock said the suspect was trying to intentionally run down two people around 1:40 a.m. near Bob & Betty's One Sixty Club on Cleveland Avenue. While the driver was fleeing, the suspect hit a third victim.

The unidentified victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

One of the intended victims was treated for minor injuries at the scene, while the other one is in the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Garlock said.

"This matter is wholeheartedly tragic and is a senseless crime," said Auburn Police Chief Ryan Kinnan. "I want to express condolences to the victim and their families as they go through this difficult time."

Kinnan added that "the police department's main focus is to locate the suspect and vehicle. We will investigate this matter quickly and thoroughly."

Garlock said the department won't be releasing any more information at this time.
