Rio Linda man killed in hit-and-run

Residents along Rio Linda Boulevard said they're not surprised about the dangerous crash.

RIO LINDA, Calif. — A Rio Linda man is dead following what police are calling a hit-and-run along Rio Linda Boulevard and Ephesus Avenue in Sacramento.

For the past three years, Cellosea Chilton has used Rio Linda Boulevard every single day. She also lives steps from the busy street, and as a mother of young children, she understands it can be dangerous if you're not careful.

"We tell them do not go past this house. You can't go past this house, because it's just too dangerous," said Chilton.

On Saturday evening, just before 9:30 p.m., that danger became a reality. Sacramento police said a motorcyclist was hit by another car. Unfortunately, police said the motorcyclist did not survive, and the driver of the car took off from the scene before officers arrived.

"That's really sad to hear. I'm not surprised. So a lot of people here don't really follow the speed limit. So I'm not surprised that somebody was hit," said Mehedi Chowdhury.

Chowdhury has been living in the neighborhood for the past four years and noticed Rio Linda Boulevard becoming more dangerous for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists and drivers.

"There's not much enforcement going around. There's the residential neighborhood right here, as you can obviously see, but there's no speed bumps to slow people down. And if you want to access the trail, there's no crosswalk right here," he said.

Now, Sacramento police are trying to track down the person responsible. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 38-year old Daniel Lee Morris. Police are urging anyone with information to give them a call.
