Family acquaintance reacts after Roseville parents accused of killing 9-year-old

Kimberly and Cory Blakley are facing felony charges after Roseville police were called to their New England Drive home.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. — Roseville parents are accused of killing their 9-year-old adopted son. Kimberly and Cory Blakley are facing felony charges after Roseville Police Department was called to their New England Drive home.

“It is heartbreaking. It is almost unthinkable. It is so devastating,” said Kathleen Moore, who has known the family, specifically the adoptive kids for years. “The emotion that navigates through your mind and body is tough to navigate. "

Moore said she met the family the first time, eight years ago, when her kids attended the dance and karate classes that some of the Blakley's seven kids were enrolled in. They soon learned they both were adoptive parents.

“That is one of the reasons I got so attached to the kids and enjoyed taking them home or keeping them overnight so that their parents could have a date night and a little break, and we could get to know them a little better," said Moore. "I actually spoke with them on the phone a few months ago, because I provided Christmas presents for the family. I saw them in person a year ago, because they brought the kids to pick up Christmas presents."

Moore, a foster child growing up in Chicago, is an adoptive parent to the majority of her eleven kids, which most of them are now grownups.

"I have adopted from four counties, and I can say Placer (County) is by far the most thorough, and the most supportive of their foster parents. It is a very strenuous, difficult process,” said Moore.

Moore said people must realize most of the children have suffered trauma, and it usually manifests itself in difficult behaviors.

Police have not said what the cause of the death is, but on top of homicide, the parents are also charged with child abuse.

“This is not a one family or a one child issue; it is a community wide collective opportunity for us to learn and to grow and to do better and be there for one another and for these kids,” said Moore. “You want to run and grab those kids and take them into your arms and say, 'I am here.' It is so sad."

Moore said she has made her interest known to Placer County; she would be available to adopt the three biological siblings of the 9-year-old boy who died.

The parents are being held in Placer County Jail and are not eligible for bail. They are due to make their first court appearance Feb. 9.
