Sacramento area home damaged by late-night gunfire

Sacramento Police say officers responded just before 11 pm Tuesday on Parody Way near Edmonton Drive.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — A man hit by gunfire in South Natomas is recovering after dozens of bullets were fired and a few hit the home.

Sacramento police said officers responded just before 11 p.m. Tuesday on Parody Way near Edmonton Drive. Police said when officers got there, the person or people responsible for the shooting left the area, but one man was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

“It was so quick. I thought it was fireworks. And they were like, 'No, it was some rounds,'” said Charlotte Garcia, who lives at the home with her family. “When they counted the rounds, they said 41 rounds. So, they believe there was two shooters.”

Garcia said the man shot was her relative. She is thankful more shots did not make it into their home.

“I think with the gunshots on the fence, everything kind of stopped it from coming into the house,” said Garcia.

Garcia said the 41 rounds caused damage to a parked car and the home. One of the rounds also made its way into home, feet away where children play.

“It was pretty scary for all of us because we have two babies here and two kids in elementary (school). And it was scary for everyone,” said Garcia.

Sacramento police said no one has been arrested in the case.

Garcia said the people who fired the shots ran away. She added she has no clue why her home was targeted.

“Just glad it was not worse than what it could have been,” said Garcia. “Try to stay safe as much as possible and stay close with family and friends.”

Sacramento police have not said what caused the shooting and if it was targeted.
