SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento County inmate died days after she became sick in jail, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office said the 54-year-old inmate alerted deputies that she was feeling ill on Nov. 7.
She was evaluated by the jail's medical staff and was taken to a hospital, where was given a terminal prognosis because of a medical issue, officials said. The sheriff's office notified her family.
The inmate was pronounced dead at the hospital Tuesday morning.
She had been in custody in Sacramento County since Aug. 8, 2024, according to the sheriff's office.
The sheriff's office said it will investigate the inmate's death and the Sacramento County Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death.
Officials said the coroner's office will release the name of the inmate, per their protocols.
