Suspect killed by Sacramento deputies during hostage situation in North Highlands

It all started earlier Monday morning when deputies were called about a woman who was hit and may be immobile.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A domestic violence suspect is dead after being shot by Sacramento County deputies Monday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Amar Gandhi with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, it all started around 9 a.m. on the 4100 block of Lund Court in North Highlands. He says a woman inside the home was assaulted by her boyfriend and suffered a hip injury.

The man reportedly answered the door, saw law enforcement, closed the door and barricaded himself inside as the woman was in contact with 911.

At the time, it was unclear if the man was keeping her hostage inside the home or if she couldn’t get out because she was immobilized by the injury.

Gandhi says deputies later shot the man once around 1:30 p.m. after he pointed a gun at and made threats toward the woman. He died from his injuries at the scene. No deputies were injured.

The use of force is under investigation.
