SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One inmate died at the Sacramento County Main Jail Friday morning days after being brought in, according to officials.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a cell around 11:15 a.m. to find two unresponsive inmates. Both were removed from the cell and given first aid and Narcan.
One cellmate was taken to the hospital and ultimately released back into custody. The other, a 40-year-old man, was pronounced dead. He had been in custody since Monday.
It’s unclear how the inmate died or why both cellmates were unresponsive. An investigation is underway.
No other information is known at this time.
