SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento police say they will be increasing patrols and sending additional resources, such as specialty units, to Old Sacramento after a stabbing Friday night.
Local businesses are getting ready for a busy time of year as the holiday season approaches. Business owners and customers are hoping that the stabbing won't keep people from coming to Old Sacramento for the holidays.
"For people, they get scared to come around here when things happen like that," said Luis Perez who owns El Maya, a gift shop with handmade items from around Central and South America.
Perez has run shops in the area for around 15 years. He said this is not the only thing shop owners are dealing with these days.
"People here sometimes, they just walk in and grab something and run away," he said.
Perez said this year, he and other shops could use the business after dealing with the pandemic and slower foot traffic over the past few years.
"We hope a lot of people come and that the police come around and check everybody," he said.
The holiday season is a busy time of year for Old Sacramento as both locals and tourists flock to the area for holiday performances. The Theater of Lights performances are returning to Old Sacramento Nov. 22. A Christmas tree lighting ceremony will also take place before the performance.
