SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The capital city is ushering in the holiday season with the opening of the Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink and decorations up in Old Sacramento.
With all the events in the area, including the annual tree lighting and Theater of Lights performances, police said they will be increasing their presence around the area.
“That’ll include designated patrols and additional officers, such as our specialty units, like our bike unit behind us or even the mounted unit, will be out including foot beat officers," said Officer Cody Tapley, spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department.
Tapley said with a lot of people walking around and being out during the holidays, it is important for people to be alert.
“Be aware of their surroundings and what’s going on and if they see something, say something. If they can’t find an officer walking around or in patrol car, obviously if it’s an emergency, call 911, but if not, please feel free to call our dispatch line or utilize the P3 tips app where they can submit an anonymous complaint or tip,” said Tapley.
The annual tree lighting ceremony in Old Sacramento is a popular event for both visitors and locals. This year, the tree lighting will take place on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.
The Downtown Sacramento Ice Rink is open Tuesday-Thursday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
