Sacramento woman accused of trying to kidnap 7-year-old Shasta County bus stop

Deputies said the woman reportedly tried to make a minor at the bus stop leave with her.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — A Sacramento woman was put behind bars after allegedly trying to kidnap a seven-year-old at Shasta County bus stop.

The incident was reported around 8:20 a.m. along the 14000 block of Ravine Road in the Jones Valley area. Deputies said the woman reportedly tried to make a minor at the bus stop leave with her.

Citing witnesses, deputies said the woman, later identified as 49-year-old Cortny Leigh Cossey of Sacramento, was loitering in the area. She allegedly rode up on a bike to a seven-year-old and pulled the child's arm in an effort get them to leave with her.

When the school bus arrived, deputies said she stayed in the area and tried to follow the same child onto the bus, but the driver was able to close the doors after the child boarded.

The child's parent was nearby and saw what happened, ultimately calling deputies and detaining the suspect until they got there.

Cossey was arrested on suspicion of kidnaping and was found to have numerous warrants for her arrest out of Sacramento County. She was taken to the Shasta County Jail.
