Search continues for suspect who fled from Amador court hearing

Deputies said the man stole a truck and led authorities on a chase out of the county.

AMADOR COUNTY, Calif. — Deputies are still trying to track down a man who took off from his hearing at an Amador courthouse Thursday afternoon.

The Amador County Sheriff's Office responded to the courthouse in Jackson around 4 p.m. to find the suspect, David Lee Salke Jr. Deputies said Salke was being remanded into custody by a judge for violating the terms of a prior release. He was previously arrested in February on suspicion of various firearm-related charges.

Deputies said Salke allegedly stole a truck from a nearby construction site after taking off. A Jackson police officer spotted the truck, but despite efforts to do a traffic stop, Salke allegedly led deputies on a chase along Highway 49 into Calaveras County.

Deputies said they also chased Salke along Highway 26 and onto various cross streets, but eventually lost track of him - at which point he allegedly abandoned the truck in the area of Doster Road and Manantha Way in Mountain Ranch.

A CHP airship was able to keep track of him as he ran toward the Tiger Creek Reservoir area.

Authorities are still trying to find him. Salke has several felony no bail warrants related to weapons violations and an investigation into new charges is ongoing.
