LOYALTON, Calif. — A Sierra County teacher was arrested Friday on suspicion of having sex with one of her students, according to officials.
The Sierra County Sheriff's Office says they arrested Emma Shaffer, a Loyalton High School teacher, two days after being alerted by the school's principal about a "potential sexual assault incident on campus."
Shaffer was charged with filing a false police report, having sex with a minor, perjury and "contributing to the delinquency of a minor," according to the sheriff's office. Officials say more charges may be added as their investigation continues.
It is unclear if Shaffer was arrested while on campus, if she still works at the high school and how long the allegations went on for.
Officials encourage students, parents and guardians to contact them at (530) 289-3700 with any additional information while they continue to investigate. No further information is available at this time.
