Police: Teenagers were targeting homeless people during BB gun shootings in Sonora

Sonora police said they found the suspect's BB gun and gathered information that the suspects intended to target homeless people.

SONORA, Calif. — Three teenagers were arrested in connection to a series of BB gun shootings in Sonora.

One of the initial shootings happened on Oct. 7 around 10 p.m. Sonora Police Department responded to Rotary Park for a person, described as transient, shot with a BB gun, however the suspects were gone by the time officers arrived on scene.

The next day around 2:30 a.m., another man was reported shot with a BB gun, but this time police were able to get a description of the suspect vehicle, an orange and brown box-shaped car. 

Later that afternoon, another BB gun shooting was reported in the area of Snell Street and Spring Hill Road. The victim told police that he was shot at when an orange Honda Element passed by him.

Police eventually got a possible vehicle match, pulled the car over and contacted the driver and two passengers. They were identified as Matthew Clements, driver, and Vincent Gavello and Dominic Thomas. All are 18 years old.

Sonora police said they found the suspect's BB gun and gathered information that the suspects intended to target homeless people. 

Clements was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit a crime and driving under the influence. Gavello and Thomas were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a crime.

No one was seriously injured during the incident.
