Stockton Police: 'Enough is enough' | 5 people shot outside a vigil

A 34-year-old man died from his injuries, according to the Stockton Police Department. Officers are investigating the shooting and asking for the public's help.

STOCKTON, Calif. — Update: Stockton Police Detectives say there is a connection between a May 1 homicide and a May 4 shooting that left one dead and four others injured.

Both shootings involve a gang component, according to the department's Facebook page.

This is Stockton's 15th homicide this year, said Officer Joe Silva, spokesperson for the Stockton Police Department.

One man is dead and four others are injured after a shooting at a Stockton vigil for another homicide victim, the Stockton Police Department said.

Three men and two women were shot during a candlelight vigil near the intersection of March Lane and Holiday Drive where a man was shot to death earlier this week.

A 29-year-old woman, a 31-year-old woman, a 34-year-old man, a 39-year-old man, and a 49-year-old man were all taken to Stockton area hospitals, according to a Facebook post from the Stockton Police Department.

"We have learned that the 34-year-old male victim has died from his injuries at an area hospital," the post said.

Police are unsure if the shooting at the vigil is related to the shooting that took place earlier this week, said Officer Joseph Silva, a Stockton Police Department spokesperson.

“This area has been hit hard, and we just had a homicide this week. Now we have five people shot. Enough is enough,” Silva said. “We need to bring some type of relief to this area and the police. We can’t do this alone.”

The Stockton Police Department will have additional patrols in the area in attempts to prevent further incidents.

Officers are asking for the community’s help identifying any suspects who may be involved in either incident. Silva said at least a dozen people were present during the Saturday night vigil.

People with information about the shooting can call the Stockton Police Department at (209) 937-8377, the Investigations Unit at (209) 937-8323, or Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600. Callers can remain anonymous.
