RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man in Rancho Cordova.

The sheriff's office received a call shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday about an incident in the 2100 block of Starlynn Way in Rancho Cordova, according to Tess Deterding with the sheriff's office.

"The dispatcher could hear what they described as a struggle," Deterding said. "They also heard a female say that their boyfriend was bleeding badly."

Deputies arrived and located an unresponsive man who had an injury to his lower body. Deputies began CPR until fire personnel arrived and transported the man to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead, according to Deterding.

Although the incident is not considered a homicide, homicide detectives are investigating, Deterding said. It is unclear how the victim was injured, according to Deterding.

"It appears that the incident occurred in the backyard of the residence. There was a tent-like structure in the backyard. It looked like people were living back there," Deterding said.

Detectives believe more people were on the scene at the time of the incident, according to Deterding. They're asking people who may have been there to come forward. Anyone with information should contact detectives at 916-874-5115.
