Police arrest student at Modesto school who was overheard threatening school shooting, police say

Police said the student was overheard by other students threatening to commit a shooting during the school day.

MODESTO, Calif. — A student who was overheard threatening a school shooting in Modesto was arrested Monday, police said.

According to Modesto Police Department, the suspect was a student at Hanshaw Middle School. The arrest was separate from an incident where a Modesto High School student allegedly posted a school threat on social media.

Police said the student was overheard by other students threatening to commit a shooting during the school day. The students reported it to their parents who then reported it to police Sunday night.

An investigation started, but the suspected student wasn't found at the school Monday. However, he was eventually contacted at home, taken into custody and booked into juvenile hall.

Police also said a man who was not related to the student was arrested on various charges after suspected narcotics and evidence of possible narcotic sales were seen at the home.
